چکیده
Submitted for the MAR08 Meeting of The American Physical Society Effective model parameters for the spin-Peierls system TiOCl from first principles YUZHONG ZHANG, ROSER VALENTI, HARALD JESCHKE, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Institut für Theoretische Physik — The inorganic spin-Peierls system TiOCl is studied in the frame of Density Functional Theory (DFT) by the projector augmented wave (PAW) and linearized augmented plane wave (LAPW) methods. A two-dimensional frustrated spin Peierls model is proposed to describe the system. The model parameters, such as spin exchange couplings in a, b, and c directions, are estimated by the LAPW method. With the help of the eigenvectors of the dynamical matrix, the spin-phonon couplings and the elastic constant are determined by the PAW method. The reliability of these model parameters is demonstrated by an exact diagonalization and a meanfield calculation as well as by comparison to available experiments. Effective lattice models for two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets
We introduce a 2+1 dimensional lattice model, S0, of N complex scalars coupled to a compact U(1) gauge field as a description of quantum fluctuations in SU(N) antiferromagnets. Duality maps are used to obtain a single effective action for the Néel and spin-Peierls order parameters. We examine the phases of S0 as a function of N : the N → ∞ limit can be deduced from previous work. At N = 1, S0 d...
متن کاملFormation of quantum spin Hall state on Si surface and energy gap scaling with strength of spin orbit coupling
For potential applications in spintronics and quantum computing, it is desirable to place a quantum spin Hall insulator [i.e., a 2D topological insulator (TI)] on a substrate while maintaining a large energy gap. Here, we demonstrate a unique approach to create the large-gap 2D TI state on a semiconductor surface, based on first-principles calculations and effective Hamiltonian analysis. We sho...
متن کاملThermal negativity in a two qubit XXX and XX spin chain model in an external magnetic field
In this paper we studied the thermal negativity in a two-qubit XX spin ½ chain model and XXX spin1/2 chain model(isotropic Heisenberg model)spin-1/2 chain subjected to an external magnetic field inz direction. We calculate analytical relation for the thermal negativity for two qubit XX and XXX spinchain models in the external magnetic field. Effects of the magnetic field and temperature on then...
متن کاملSlip Resistance of Ti-Based High-Temperature Shape Memory Alloys
Titanium with Nb, Zr, and Ta alloying substitutions possesses high plastic slip resistance and high transformation strains upon bcc (b) to orthorhombic ða00Þ transformation. In the current study, we determine the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) for slip in Ti alloyed for a wide composition range of Nb, Ta, and Zr. The CRSS is obtained with a proposed Peierls–Nabarro formalism incorporatin...
متن کاملIncommensurate Spin–Peierls Phases in the One–Dimensional Quantum Isotropic XY Model
An interest in the theoretical study of quantum spin chains exhibiting spin–Peierls phases has incredibly grown since the discovery of the first inorganic spin–Peierls compound CuGeO3 (for a review see). Although the quantum Heisenberg model is usually used as an appropriate model to describe the spin–Peierls phase transition in the available materials some generic features can be clarified wit...
